Kerala Opposition Leader VD Satheesan said he held a key interaction with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on the sidelines of the 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting held in Mahabalipuram, Chennai.
Sharing photographs of the meeting on social media platform X, Satheesan said PK Kunhalikutty, Kerala`s Minister for Industries and Information Technology, was also present during the interaction.
The Southern Zonal Council meeting was convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss important inter-state and national issues involving the southern states and Union Territories.
Southern Zonal Council Members
The Southern Zonal Council includes Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, along with the Union Territories of Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
The council provides a platform for the Centre and member states and Union Territories to discuss and resolve inter-state issues and disputes.
Key Issues Before Southern States
Several inter-state matters remain important in the region, including river water-sharing disputes between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The Southern Zonal Council meeting provides an opportunity for the states to discuss such issues and explore coordinated solutions.
