Chennai-Trichy National Highway Encroachments Cause Severe Traffic Congestion

Traffic congestion has become a major concern along several stretches of the Chennai-Trichy National Highway, with roadside encroachments and unauthorised parking affecting the smooth movement of vehicles.

Areas including Vandalur, Otteri, Kilambakkam, Urapakkam, Guduvanchery, Vallanchery and Thailavaram are reportedly facing traffic problems due to shops and other commercial activities occupying both sides of the road.

Bike Showroom Parking Worsens Traffic Congestion

The situation is particularly serious along Guduvanchery GST Road, where motorcycles belonging to privately owned bike showrooms are reportedly parked along the roadside from around 9 am to 9 pm.

The roadside parking reduces the available road space and contributes to heavy traffic congestion, leaving motorists struggling to navigate the busy stretch, particularly during peak hours.

Footpath Encroachments Affect Pedestrians

In addition to roadside parking, shops have reportedly come up on pedestrian footpaths in several locations. As a result, pedestrians are forced to use the road, further adding to the traffic and safety concerns.

Traffic congestion is particularly severe during the morning, evening and night peak hours, affecting school and college students, employees and daily commuters.

Emergency Vehicles Also Affected

The traffic congestion has raised concerns about the movement of ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Residents claim that severe congestion can make it difficult for ambulances to pass through certain stretches during emergencies.

Local residents have reportedly submitted complaints to the concerned authorities several times, but claim that no effective action has been taken so far.

Residents Seek Immediate Action

Members of the public have urged the National Highways authorities and other concerned departments to take immediate action against roadside encroachments and unauthorised parking.

Residents are seeking measures to clear the footpaths, prevent vehicles from being parked along the highway and ensure that the road remains free for smooth traffic movement.

They have also called for regular enforcement and monitoring along the Chennai-Trichy National Highway, particularly in busy areas such as Guduvanchery, Kilambakkam, Urapakkam and Vandalur.
