Train services on Chennai’s busy suburban rail network were disrupted after a sudden signal failure near Vyasarpadi Jeeva railway station, causing significant inconvenience to daily commuters.

The Central–Arakkonam route is one of the most important suburban rail corridors in Chennai, with over 200 electric trains operating ежедневно and lakhs of passengers depending on it. On this crucial stretch, the unexpected signal issue brought services to a halt on Tuesday afternoon.

An EMU train traveling from Avadi towards Chennai Beach and another train heading towards Chennai Central were both stopped near Vyasarpadi Jeeva station due to the technical fault. As trains remained stranded for several minutes, passengers were left waiting inside coaches and on platforms, leading to frustration and delays.

Railway officials were immediately alerted about the issue. Technical teams rushed to the spot and worked to fix the fault. After nearly 30–35 minutes of effort, the signal problem was resolved, and train services gradually returned to normal.

However, the disruption once again highlighted ongoing challenges faced by commuters on this route. It is worth noting that around 65 train services had already been reduced last year due to maintenance work. As a result, trains now run at longer intervals of around 20 minutes, adding to daily travel difficulties.

Frequent delays and reduced services continue to impact thousands of passengers who rely on Chennai’s suburban trains for their daily commute.
