9 Railway Stations Including Chennai Park to Be Revamped Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

The redevelopment works of nine railway stations, including Chennai Park and Chinnasalem, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme have reached the final stage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to dedicate these upgraded railway stations to the nation soon.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the central government is undertaking redevelopment works at more than 1,300 railway stations across the country. In the Southern Railway zone, improvement works are currently underway at more than 40 railway stations.

So far, more than 119 upgraded railway stations across the country have been opened for public use. In the Southern Railway region, redevelopment works at 21 railway stations have been completed and the stations have been dedicated to the nation.

Meanwhile, the first and second phases of redevelopment works at more than 1,150 remaining railway stations are progressing rapidly at various stages. As part of this initiative, redevelopment works at eight railway stations, including Chennai Park, Chinnasalem, and Coonoor, have reached the final stage. These stations will be dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon.

Southern Railway officials stated that the Amrit Bharat Railway Station Scheme is being implemented to improve all basic facilities for passengers at railway stations.

The redevelopment project includes facilities such as lifts, foot overbridges, additional platforms, passenger waiting halls, renovated entry points, escalators, multi-level parking facilities, CCTV cameras, and other passenger amenities.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, redevelopment works are in the final stages at Chennai Park, Coonoor, and Chinnasalem railway stations in Tamil Nadu. Similar works are also nearing completion at Thalassery, Tirur, Parappanangadi, Angamaly, Chalakudy, and Nilambur railway stations in Kerala.

Among these, Chennai Park railway station is being upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 10.68 crore, Coonoor railway station at Rs 7.62 crore, and Chinnasalem railway station at Rs 2.5 crore.

The upgraded railway stations are expected to be dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi between the 12th and 17th of this month. However, the exact date has not been officially confirmed yet, Southern Railway officials said.
