Over 250 Trains Cancelled Ahead of CJP Protest in Delhi

More than 250 trains have been cancelled by the Railway Board ahead of a protest planned by the `Cockroach Janata Party` (CJP) on October 10, 2026, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The cancellations affect trains operating from Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations to various parts of the country.

The cancellations include passenger trains scheduled to depart after 2 PM on October 9, as well as trains due to arrive at Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10.

More Than 250 Train Services Affected

The cancellations cover trains scheduled to depart from both stations, along with local train services. The decision has drawn criticism because of the inconvenience caused to thousands of passengers.

Railway experts, passenger welfare organisations and recognised associations have described the move as unprecedented, unfortunate and unfair to travellers.

Former Railway Board member Subodh Jain criticised the decision, saying that cancelling such a large number of trains was equivalent to surrendering to protesters. He noted that although individual train cancellations had occurred during previous protests, a disruption on this scale had not been seen before.

Passengers Face Major Inconvenience

The sudden cancellations have left thousands of passengers facing travel difficulties. Some may have been travelling for urgent medical needs, work commitments or family events.

According to railway experts, train services had previously been suspended on a large scale during the COVID-19 lockdown. However, they said cancellations of this magnitude specifically due to a protest were unprecedented.

The decision has raised concerns about the impact of large-scale railway disruptions on passengers and the need to minimise inconvenience during public demonstrations.
