Tamil Nadu Rain Forecast: Heavy Rain Likely in Several Districts Today and Tomorrow

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast light to heavy rain with thunderstorms in several parts of Tamil Nadu from September 28. Some areas may also experience gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph. The forecast is broadly consistent with the India Meteorological Department`s outlook for isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

On September 28, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds may occur at one or two places in Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur and Dindigul.

Moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely at a few places in the Western Ghats districts, along with Vellore, Ranipet, Kallakurichi, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Pudukkottai and Sivaganga.

Other parts of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, may receive light rain with thunderstorms.

On September 29, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Erode, Namakkal and Madurai. Moderate rain may occur in the Western Ghats districts and several northern, central and southern districts.

On September 30, Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri may receive heavy rain at isolated places. Moderate rain is expected in several other districts.

The rain activity is expected to continue into October 1 and 2, particularly over the Western Ghats and southern districts. Light to moderate rain may occur in other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Chennai Weather

Chennai and its suburbs may remain partly cloudy on September 28 and 29. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is possible in some areas during the evening and night. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 36–37°C, while the minimum temperature may be around 27–28°C.

Fishermen Warning

Strong winds are expected over parts of the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal. Fishermen have been advised to avoid the specified sea areas on September 28 and during the following two days due to the expected rough conditions.
