Thaimaman Gold Ring Scheme Launched in Madurai by CM Vijay

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched the Thaimaman Gold Ring Scheme at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai on September 28, 2026. Under the scheme, one-gram gold rings will be provided to babies born in government hospitals and Primary Health Centres across the state.

As part of the launch, Chief Minister Vijay presented gold rings to 30 babies born at Government Rajaji Hospital. The first ring was presented to a baby girl named Muthu Yazhini from the Azhagumalai area.

The scheme covers babies born in government hospitals from June 22, 2026. The Tamil Nadu government has allocated ₹755.83 crore annually for the scheme and has procured 1.28 lakh gold rings in the first phase.

The gold rings will be distributed through designated centres to eligible children born between June 22 and the scheme`s launch date. From the launch date onwards, eligible babies born in government hospitals will receive the gold ring before being discharged from the hospital.

The launch event was shifted to the hospital`s auditorium to avoid taking the programme into the mother-and-child ward, where the presence of visitors could increase infection risks for newborns.

The scheme is also being launched in other districts on the same day through designated government hospitals.
