Dr. P. Senthilnathan Takes Office as President of AMASI, Unveils Strategic Vision

Dr. P. Senthilnathan, Director of GEM Hospital Chennai, has officially assumed the role of President of the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI), marking a significant milestone for the country`s largest minimal access surgeons association. At the recent swearing-in ceremony in Kolkata, Dr. Senthilnathan introduced his strategic vision under the banner, "A New Vision. A New Journey. A Stronger AMASI”, signaling a renewed commitment to advancing minimal access surgery across India and beyond.

Addressing the Executive Committee, past Presidents, distinguished faculty and members of the AMASI family from across the country, Dr. Senthilnathan emphasized the collective strength of the association. He said that AMASI is built by its members, faculty, surgeons and leaders who work together towards the advancement of the profession, and that the new presidential term represents a shared commitment to building a stronger, more connected and future-ready AMASI.

Dr. Senthilnathan outlined an ambitious eight-point strategic focus for his term as President. The agenda includes academic excellence, training the next generation of surgeons, expansion of the FMAS and MMAS programmes, innovation and technology adoption, research and collaboration, strengthening membership, upholding quality and standards, and establishing AMASI SMART Centres to further the organisation`s reach and impact.

A key priority of the new leadership will be to strengthen training opportunities for surgeons from Government Medical Colleges, enabling wider access to structured education, hands-on training and skill development in minimal access surgery. This initiative aims to support the next generation of surgeons and expand access to quality minimally invasive surgical training across the country.

AMASI will also focus on collaborating with international laparoscopic associations to strengthen global partnerships and promote the exchange of knowledge, training, research and best practices. Such collaborations will further enhance AMASI’s international presence and create greater opportunities for surgeons to learn, collaborate and adopt advanced techniques.

Dr. Senthilnathan succeeds Dr. Kalpesh Jani of Baroda as President of AMASI. Under Dr. Senthilnathan`s leadership, AMASI aims to build on its legacy of education, innovation and collaboration, create more opportunities for surgeons to adopt advanced techniques, and further unite the community of minimal access surgeons. The comprehensive approach is intended to strengthen surgical training, expand the reach of AMASI and enhance standards of surgical care for patients throughout India and beyond.
