Aavin Milk Shortage in Chennai: Green Magic, Blue Pocket Milk Supply Hit

A shortage of Aavin milk, particularly the popular Green Magic and Blue Pocket variants, has caused concern among consumers in several parts of Chennai. Authorised Aavin parlours and neighbourhood retailers have reported reduced stocks, leaving many households struggling to purchase their regular morning milk supply.

In Mylapore and surrounding areas, families that depend on Green Magic and Blue Pocket milk said they have often been unable to get their required quantity at nearby Aavin parlours. The shortage has created difficulties for households with children and elderly members who depend on their regular milk supply.

The situation is also affecting families that prefer Aavin Green Magic milk because of its relatively affordable price. With stocks running out at authorised outlets, some consumers are being forced to purchase costlier alternatives.

Aavin Milk Supply Shortage in Mylapore

Civic activist R Ramesh said households in Mylapore and nearby neighbourhoods were facing difficulties due to the sudden shortage of Aavin Green Magic and Blue Pocket milk packets at authorised parlours.

According to him, the same Aavin milk variants are available at some provision stores, larger retail outlets and online platforms. However, consumers may have to pay around ₹2 above the printed MRP at some outlets. He said the additional amount could increase the monthly expenses of families that purchase several milk packets every day.

Consumers Face Morning Supply Problems

Lalitha, a consumer from Perambur, said the uncertainty over milk availability had disrupted the daily routine of many households.

Consumers are reportedly being forced to visit multiple shops to find their preferred Aavin milk packets or switch to other private milk brands when stocks are unavailable at nearby parlours.

Retail vendor N Muthuvel from Perambur said reduced supplies were affecting both retailers and consumers. According to him, Aavin`s evening supply has been reduced, while the quantity supplied in the morning is also lower compared with August 2025.

Milk Dealers Seek Priority for Aavin Parlours

The Tamil Nadu Milk Dealers` Welfare Association has urged the government to prioritise milk supplies to authorised Aavin parlours and retail outlets.

Association founder and state president SA Ponnusamy has also sought a temporary suspension of online Aavin milk sales through platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato and Dunzo. The association has alleged that increased supplies to online platforms could be affecting distribution to neighbourhood outlets.

The association has further alleged that some Aavin officials were diverting supplies and creating an artificial shortage. It has also raised allegations of demands for unofficial payments from certain Aavin parlour operators.

The association said Aavin`s daily milk sales remain around 31.5 lakh litres through 29 district unions and ononline channels. It argued that distribution constraints, along with inadequate milk procurement in recent years, have contributed to the current situation.

The Milk and Dairy Development Minister and the Aavin Managing Director were reportedly unavailable for comment.
