Varalakshmi Vratam 2026: Special Pujas and Evening Celebrations at Chennai Temples

Varalakshmi Vratam is being observed across Chennai today, Friday, August 21, with devotion and traditional rituals. Many women are observing the vratam and offering special prayers for the health, prosperity and well-being of their families.

Since early morning, homes across the city have been decorated with traditional kolams, mango leaves and flowers. Devotees have prepared the sacred Kalasham and decorated Goddess Lakshmi with silk sarees, jewellery and flower garlands. Special offerings such as kozhukattai, payasam and vadai have also been prepared as Neivedhyam.

Special Pujas at Chennai Temples

Several prominent temples across Chennai are witnessing special celebrations for Varalakshmi Vratam. The Ashtalakshmi Temple in Besant Nagar, Kamakshi Amman Temple in Mangadu and Mundagakanni Amman Temple in Mylapore are among the temples where devotees have gathered for special prayers.

Special Abhishekam and Alankaram were performed for the deities, attracting devotees from different parts of the city.

Evening Puja Timing

The evening Kumbha Lagna is considered an auspicious period for Varalakshmi worship today, from 6:16 PM to 7:52 PM. A large number of devotees are expected to visit prominent Lakshmi and Amman temples during the evening.

Additional traffic arrangements may be made around busy temple areas, particularly Mylapore, T. Nagar and Besant Nagar, to manage the expected increase in evening crowds.
