Aavin Milk Supply Cut Across Tamil Nadu Due to Procurement Shortage

Aavin has temporarily reduced milk supply across Tamil Nadu following a sharp decline in milk procurement, leading to shortages at many retail outlets.

In Chennai, daily milk distribution has dropped from around 16 lakh litres in April to 13.5 lakh litres, while officials said supply has reduced by nearly 30% across the State.

Dairy farmers say many have shifted to private dairies, which offer higher procurement prices and timely payments. They also claim Aavin has delayed incentive payments in several districts, affecting milk collection.

Aavin officials, however, said the shortage is temporary and mainly due to lower milk production during the summer. They added that procurement is now improving with seasonal changes and normal supply will be restored gradually. The cooperative also clarified that there is no proposal to increase Aavin milk prices at present.
