Tamil Nadu Toll Fee Hike 2026: New Charges Implemented at 68 Toll Plazas

The revised toll fee structure has officially come into effect at 68 toll plazas across Tamil Nadu from midnight, increasing travel expenses for motorists using national and state highways across the state.

The annual toll fee revision, which is usually implemented in April every year, was temporarily postponed this year due to election code restrictions. Following the completion of election procedures, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has now enforced the updated toll charges.

According to officials, the revised toll fees will remain applicable until March 31, 2027.

The toll fee hike applies to all categories of vehicles including cars, vans, buses, trucks and multi-axle commercial vehicles. Monthly pass charges at several toll plazas have also been increased.

Transport industry experts say the rise in toll charges for heavy vehicles and commercial transport may indirectly impact logistics costs and could eventually lead to an increase in essential commodity prices across Tamil Nadu.

Daily commuters, private vehicle owners and transport operators travelling on major highways connecting Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Salem and Tirunelveli are expected to face higher travel costs due to the revised toll fee structure.

The latest toll fee revision comes at a time when motorists are already dealing with rising fuel prices and vehicle maintenance expenses, leading to concerns among regular highway users.
