TVK Government to Present Its First Tamil Nadu Budget 2026 - 27 Today; Key Announcements Expected

The TVK-led Tamil Nadu Government will present its maiden Budget for 2026–27 in the State Assembly on Wednesday, with expectations of several new schemes, policy initiatives, and administrative reforms despite the state`s challenging financial position.

Finance, Planning and Development Minister N. Marie Wilson will present his first State Budget since assuming office. The Budget is expected to outline the government`s fiscal priorities, development agenda, and spending plans for the current financial year.

Budget Amid Financial Constraints

The government is preparing the Budget under significant financial constraints and limited fiscal space. Due to the shortage of funds, it has so far avoided announcing major welfare programmes, with the exception of the Thaimaman Thanga Modhiram Scheme.

Despite the financial challenges, the Tamil Nadu Budget 2026–27 is expected to introduce several new welfare schemes, policy measures, governance reforms, and initiatives to improve public service delivery across the state.

Assembly Session and Agriculture Budget

Following the Budget presentation, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) will meet to finalise the duration of the Assembly session and the schedule for the discussion on the Budget.

The government`s first Agriculture Budget will be presented on Thursday by Minister for Agriculture and Farmers` Welfare R. Vinoth.

After the general discussion on both Budgets, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will take up the Demands for Grants for various government departments. The Budget Session is expected to continue for around 25 days.
