Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Likely in 28 Districts Today, Orange Alert Issued

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall in 28 districts of Tamil Nadu today, with an orange alert issued for selected districts expecting heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Orange Alert for Four Districts

According to the weather department, the hilly areas of Tirunelveli, Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Kanniyakumari districts may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds reaching 40–50 kmph are also likely.

Heavy Rain Forecast in 28 Districts

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely at isolated places in the following districts:

Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruppur, Virudhunagar, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Perambalur.

Puducherry and Karaikal may also experience heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

Rain Forecast for Tomorrow

The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram and Ranipet districts tomorrow. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds may accompany the rain.

Chennai and its surrounding areas are expected to remain generally cloudy today, with moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in some locations.

Maximum temperature: 33–34°C

Minimum temperature: 25–26°C

Tomorrow, the city is expected to remain cloudy, with moderate rain and thunderstorms in some areas and occasional heavy rainfall possible. The maximum temperature may be around 32–33°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain between 25°C and 26°C.
