Jagannath Puri Temple, located near the East Coast Road (ECR) at Kannathur in Tamil Nadu, is a spiritually significant shrine dedicated to Lord Jagannath, along with Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra. The temple also houses the divine presence of Lord Yoganarasimha, offering devotees a powerful and serene place of worship.

Unlike many traditional South Indian temples, this shrine is built in Oriya architectural style, closely resembling the famous Jagannath Temple Puri. The sanctum and structure are crafted using black granite from Kancheepuram and white marble from Rajasthan, giving the temple a unique and elegant appearance.

The deities in this temple are made from neem wood, similar to the original idols in Puri, adding to its spiritual authenticity. The temple premises spread across one acre, adorned with lush green lawns and flower gardens. Flowers used for daily poojas are sourced directly from this garden.

At the entrance, a majestic Dhwaja Sthambha (flagstaff) stands tall, welcoming devotees into the sacred space. Inside the complex, there are additional sannidhis for Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Devi Gajalakshmi, Devi Vimala, and the Navagrahas.

The temple is situated just a few hundred meters from the seashore, and devotees can enjoy a scenic view of the sea while entering the shrine, creating a peaceful and divine atmosphere. The priests here are traditionally from Odisha, and all rituals and chants are performed in the Oriya style, preserving the temple’s cultural roots.

This temple was established to provide devotees in South India, especially Tamil Nadu, an opportunity to experience the divine presence of Lord Jagannath without traveling to Odisha.
