The Southern Railway has warned passengers against playing music, watching videos or viewing reels on mobile phones at high volume without using headphones during train journeys. Violators may face a fine of up to ₹1,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both, according to the reported warning.
Headphones Must Be Used for Music and Videos
Millions of people travel by train every day, and some passengers watch videos, listen to songs, scroll through reels or play mobile games at high volume. Such behaviour can disturb fellow passengers and has reportedly led to complaints.
To maintain a comfortable travel environment, passengers have been advised to use headphones or earphones while listening to music or watching videos. They should also speak quietly when making phone calls on trains.
Fine of Up to ₹5,000 for Repeated Disturbances
Jafar Ali, a member of the Southern Railway Passenger Amenities Committee, said that passengers frequently engage in activities on their mobile phones that cause inconvenience to others at railway stations and on trains.
According to the report, action will be taken against passengers who cause public disturbance under the relevant provisions of the amended Railways Act and the Jan Vishwas legislation.
The reported penalties include:
Fine: ₹1,000
Imprisonment: Up to six months
Both penalties: May be imposed together
Repeated disturbance: A fine of up to ₹5,000 may be imposed for continued violations, according to the report.
Instructions have reportedly been issued to all railway divisions. Ticket examiners and authorised commercial department officials of the appropriate rank will be responsible for collecting fines.
Railway Passengers Advised to Follow the Rules
Passengers are advised to keep mobile phone volumes low, use headphones for audio and video content, and avoid disturbing others during their journey. Following these guidelines can help ensure a more comfortable travel experience for everyone.
