Tamil Nadu By-Elections Likely Soon in 5 Assembly Constituencies; EC Begins Preparations

The Election Commission has directed district election officials to begin preparatory work for by-elections in five vacant Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. The constituencies are Tiruchirappalli (East), Perundurai, Madurantakam (SC), Dharapuram (SC), and Ambasamudram.

The seats became vacant after the resignation of their respective MLAs. Tiruchirappalli East fell vacant after Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay resigned from the constituency following his assumption of office. The other four constituencies were declared vacant after the resignation of their elected representatives.

As per election rules, a by-election must be conducted within six months from the date a constituency is declared vacant. With this deadline approaching, the Election Commission has instructed district collectors to complete all administrative arrangements by June 22.

Election Officers and Assistant Election Officers have already been appointed for the five constituencies. An official announcement regarding the Tamil Nadu by-election date is expected soon.
