Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Allocates Rs 340 Crore to Strengthen Drinking Water Supply and Drought Relief

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has sanctioned Rs 340 crore to strengthen drinking water supply and implement drought mitigation measures across the State as several regions continue to experience dry weather conditions.

The announcement was made following a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister to assess the prevailing drought situation and review the State`s preparedness to tackle water scarcity.

Rs 330 Crore for Drinking Water Projects

During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure an uninterrupted supply of drinking water to water-scarce areas through tanker lorries. He also instructed departments to replace ageing drinking water pipelines to improve the efficiency and reliability of water distribution across Tamil Nadu.

To support these initiatives, Rs 330 crore has been allocated for various drinking water infrastructure projects, including pipeline replacement, emergency water supply arrangements, and other essential water management works.

Rs 10 Crore for Livestock Welfare

Recognising the impact of drought on livestock, Chief Minister Vijay also sanctioned Rs 10 crore to the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department. The funds will be used to ensure the uninterrupted supply of fodder for cattle and other livestock affected by drought conditions across the State.

District-Level Monitoring Intensified

The Chief Minister instructed senior IAS officers, who have been appointed as district monitoring officers, to closely monitor the drought situation in their respective districts and ensure timely implementation of relief measures.

He also directed District Collectors to review the status of drinking water supply, drought relief works, and other essential public services during the weekly review meetings held every Monday.

Senior Officials Attend Review Meeting

The review meeting was attended by Ministers R. Vinoth and N. Marie Wilson, Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department Gagandeep Singh Bedi, along with other senior government officials.

The latest allocation reflects the Tamil Nadu government`s commitment to ensuring safe drinking water, protecting livestock, and strengthening drought preparedness across the State while addressing the challenges posed by prolonged dry weather.
