Southern Railway has announced temporary route diversions for important trains operating between Chennai and Kerala due to ongoing engineering maintenance works. The Chennai Central–Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Express and the Guruvayur–Chennai Egmore Express will operate via Kottayam on selected dates in May 2026.
According to the latest Southern Railway update, the Chennai Central–Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Express (Train No. 22207) will be diverted through the Kottayam route on May 15 and May 22, 2026.
Chennai–Thiruvananthapuram Express Route Changed
The superfast train departing from Chennai Central at 4 PM will not operate through its usual route via Ernakulam and Alappuzha on the diverted dates.
Instead, the train will halt at:
- Ernakulam Town
- Kottayam
- Chengannur
Railway officials stated that the temporary diversion has been implemented to facilitate railway track maintenance and engineering works.
Guruvayur–Chennai Egmore Express Also Diverted
Southern Railway also confirmed route changes for the Guruvayur–Chennai Egmore Express (Train No. 16128). The daily express train departing Guruvayur at 11:15 PM will run via Kottayam from May 11 to May 23, and on May 25 and 26, 2026.
During the diversion period, the train will skip the following stations:
- Ernakulam
- Cherthala
- Alappuzha
- Ambalappuzha
- Haripad
The train will instead stop at:
- Kottayam
- Changanassery
- Tiruvalla
- Chengannur
