The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has officially announced that summer holidays for students studying in Classes 1 to 9 will commence from April 17, 2026.
As per the schedule, the annual examinations will conclude on April 16, after which students will be given their summer break. The exams are planned to be conducted in phases for different classes:
Classes 6 to 9: April 1 to April 16
Classes 4 and 5: April 6 to April 16
Classes 1 to 3: April 8 to April 16
This year, the examination schedule has been slightly advanced in view of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Several schools are expected to be utilized as polling centres, prompting authorities to complete academic activities earlier than usual.
With the exams ending by mid-April, students can look forward to a long summer vacation starting April 17. Meanwhile, teachers are likely to remain on duty for evaluation work and administrative responsibilities even after the exams are completed.
The early declaration of holidays helps parents and students plan their schedules in advance while ensuring smooth coordination of both academic and election-related activities across the state.
