Light to moderate rainfall is expected across several parts of Tamil Nadu until August 5, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely in some areas, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

In Chennai, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely during the evening and night hours on Friday, July 31.

Rain Forecast for Chennai and Coastal Tamil Nadu

Scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected across north coastal Tamil Nadu, delta districts, Puducherry and Karaikal until August 1.

Some areas may also experience gusty winds of around 40 to 50 kmph.

The current rainfall activity is associated with a feeble trough along and off the Tamil Nadu coast in the lower tropospheric levels.

Heavy Rain Likely in Nilgiris, Theni, Coimbatore and Kanniyakumari

Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds is likely at isolated places in the Nilgiris, Theni and Kanniyakumari districts, as well as the Ghat regions of Coimbatore and Tirunelveli, over the next couple of days.

Other parts of Tamil Nadu may receive isolated light rain with thunderstorms until August 1.

Tamil Nadu Rain Forecast From August 2 to 5

On August 2, isolated areas in the Western Ghats districts are expected to receive moderate rainfall. Light showers are likely across other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Between August 3 and August 5, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue over north coastal Tamil Nadu, the delta districts and Western Ghats regions, while other parts of the State may experience light rain.

Chennai Temperature May Reach 37°C

Despite the possibility of rain, interior parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to experience relatively warm conditions on Friday, with maximum temperatures likely to remain 2°C to 4°C above normal.

Temperatures across the rest of the region are expected to remain near normal until August 5.

In Chennai, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 37°C, while the minimum temperature may settle near 26°C.

Madurai Airport recorded Tamil Nadu`s highest maximum temperature at 39°C, while Udhagamandalam recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 12.8°C on Friday.
