Indias PSLV rocket is going commercial. It will now carry satellites for a small fee. Among others, the rocket will launch Frances 712 kg SPOT earth observation and the 950 kg EnMAP. According to reports, there are more to come, one of which is Indonesias LAPAN A2. A total of 8 launches are expected to take place in 2013 -14 and 2014 -15.
Says K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman and Secretary of the Department of Space at ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), A few more countries (are) discussing sending another half-a-dozen satellites on the PSLV The PSLV, I should say, is now a globally sought after vehicle and for two reasons. One, it has a niche in that class of payloads. Two, the number of successful launches we have had with it is an important factor. The very fact that SPOT-6 came to us and now SPOT-7 and EnMAP have followed indicates this One can expect the launch from December onwards.
