The prices of rice, garlic, and chilli have come down. With the increase in imported quantity, the price of Basmati rice also has come down drastically like never before in history.
Rice
With the increased quantity of arrivals from Andhra & Karnataka, the price of rice has come down.
10 days ago, Karnataka steam rice cost Rs. 44/- per kg. Now, it is sold at Rs. 40/- per kg. 2nd quality Karnataka steam rice is being sold at Rs. 34/- per kg from the earlier Rs. 38/- per kg.
Rupali rice is sold at Rs. 28/- per kg from Rs. 32/- per kg. Wonder Ponni is sold at Rs. 32/- per kg from Rs. 36/0 per kg. De-luxe rice is sold at Rs. 34/- per kg from Rs. 38/- per kg. Papatla rice is sold at Rs. 36/- per kg from Rs. 40/- per kg. Papatla (old) rice is sold at Rs. Rs. 40/- per kg from Rs. 44/- per kg. White Ponni is sold at Rs. 40/- per kg from Rs. 44/- per kg. White Ponni (old) is sold at Rs. 46/- per kg from Rs. 50/- per kg.
The price of Basmati has come down steeply due to stoppage of exports and excess cultivaton in the states of Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.
1st quality Basmati rice is being sold at Rs. 95/- per kg from Rs. 135/- per kg. 2nd quality Basmati rice is sold at Rs. 80/- per kg from Rs. 120/- per kg.
Chilli
With good Southwest & Northeast monsoons, chilli harvest was excellent in the Tamil Nadu districts of Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram, and Vilathikulam. So, round chilli is sold at Rs. 100/- per kg from Rs. 170/- per kg. Round chilli, 2nd quality, is sold at Rs. 70/- from Rs. 120/-. The variety of long chilli is sold at Rs. 90/- per kg from Rs. 110/- per kg.
Garlic
Excellent harvest of garlic in the states of Gujarat Madhyapradesh and Ooty in Tamil Nadu has resulted in a deep fall in the price of garlic.
Rural garlic (Nattu Poondu in Tamil) is sold at Rs. 80/- per kg from Rs. 130/- per kg. 2nd quality rural garlic is sold at Rs. 50/- per kg from Rs. 100/- per kg. Ooty garlic is sold at Rs. 100/- per kg from Rs. 160/- per kg.
Other groceries
Sugar is sold at Rs. 29/- per kg from Rs. 33/- per kg. Vellore jaggery is sold at Rs. 45/- per kg from Rs. 50/- per kg. Tarapuram jaggery is sold at Rs. 40/- per kg from Rs. 45/- per kg.
Oil prices have also come down due to the increased quantity of import from Indonesia, Malaysia, South America, and Ukraine.
Palm oil is sold at Rs. 52/- per paqcket from Rs. 58/-. Sunflower oil is sold at Rs. Rs. 77/- per packet from Rs. 82/-. Sunflower (2nd quality) is sold at Rs. 68/- per packet from Rs. 73/-.
Agmark Gingely (sesame) oil is sold at Rs. 220/- per packet from Rs. 260/-. Kangeyam Road Agmark gingely oil is sold at Rs. 170/- per packet from Rs. 220/-. Gingely oil for lighting lamps is sold at Rs. 75/- per packet from Rs. 100/-. Coconut oil is sold at Rs. 190/- per packet from Rs. 240/-. Coconut oil (2nd grade) is sold at Rs. 170/- per packet from Rs. 220/-.
Price of tamarind has come down from Rs. 130/- per kg to Rs. 90/-. Coriander price has come down from Rs. 140/- to Rs. 100/-.
