Roaming charges come down!

TRAI (Telecom Regulatory of Authority of India) had ordered changes in roaming charges for cell phones.
Accordingly, roaming charges for incoming calls will be reduced by 23% and sms charges will be reduced by 40%.
TRAI has announced that the revised charges will be effective from 1st May.

Roaming charges were revised last during the end of 2013.
These are being revised again. The maximum charges for some of the services are being set.
The concessions currently enjoyed by cell phone service providers for roaming charges stand cancelled. Special roaming charges are being considered.
While in roaming, the local calls are reduced form Re. 1.00 per minute to Rs. 0.80. Outstation calls while in roaming mode are reduced from Rs. 1.50 per minute to Rs. 1.15 per minute.
Incoming calls while on roaming mode are reduced from Rs. 0.75 per minute to Rs. 0.45 per minute. Local sms on roaming mode is charged currently at Rs. 1/- per message. This is being reduced to Rs. 0.25. Outstations sms charges are being reduced from Rs. 1.50 per sms to Rs. O.38 per message.
