Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026: Final Candidate List to Be Announced Today
The Election Commission of India will release the final list of candidates for all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu today (April 9) after 3 PM. This marks a key milestone ahead of the state’s upcoming elections.
A total of 7,599 candidates filed their nominations between March 30 and April 6. Following the scrutiny process conducted by election officials, 5,081 nominations were accepted, while 2,480 were rejected due to improper or incomplete documentation. Additionally, 38 candidates withdrew their nominations.
Prominent political leaders contesting in the election include Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman, TVK தலைவர் Vijay, DMDK’s Premalatha Vijayakant, Union Minister L. Murugan, and BJP state president Nainar Nagendran.
The deadline to withdraw nominations ends at 3 PM today, after which the final candidate list will be published. Independent candidates will also be allotted their election symbols.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be held on April 23, and the vote counting is scheduled for May 4, 2026. With the final list set to be released, political campaigning across the state is expected to intensify in the coming days.
