Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Thunderstorms Likely on February 25, Says RMC Chennai

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rainfall in isolated places across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday (February 25).

Low-Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal

A low-pressure area that was present over the southwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal has moved eastward and is now positioned over the southeast Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to weaken gradually.

Additionally, a lower-level atmospheric circulation prevailing over the southeast Arabian Sea off the south Kerala coast is influencing weather conditions over Tamil Nadu.

Rain Likely Till March 2

Due to these systems:

- Isolated places in South Tamil Nadu

- A few areas in North Tamil Nadu

- Puducherry and Karaikal

are likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on February 25.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from February 25 to March 2.

Chennai Weather Update

In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy on Wednesday. Light mist may occur in some areas during the early morning hours.

Fog Alert in Several Districts

Light fog is likely during early morning hours on February 25 and 26 in the following districts:

Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Kanchipuram.

Rainfall Recorded (Last 24 Hours)

As per data recorded till 8:30 AM:

- Chinchona and Upper Bhavani (Coimbatore district) – 30 mm each

- Valparai (Coimbatore) – 20 mm

- Surulacode (Kanyakumari district) – 10 mm
