CMRL Phase II: 67% Work Completed on Koyambedu - Trade Centre Stretch, Opening Likely in June

Around 67% of construction work has been completed on Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase II stretch between Koyambedu and Chennai Trade Centre, with services expected to begin in June this year. The viaduct work is likely to be finished by the end of March.

This stretch will provide a second interchange point between Phase I and Phase II networks at Koyambedu, improving connectivity for commuters. Track laying has already begun, with nearly 2 km completed out of the planned 12 km.

Along with this section, Metro stations between Alapakkam and Saligramam on the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch are also expected to open in June. Officials said the double-decker corridor will allow smooth interchange between corridors at multiple stations.

However, work on Butt Road and Alandur stations faces delays due to earlier traffic permission issues, though efforts are underway to speed up construction.
