Depression to Bring Heavy Rain to North Tamil Nadu, Including Chennai, on Nov 29
A depression forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal is set to bring significant rainfall to northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The system, which developed late on November 26, is expected to intensify into a deep depression within 12 hours, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).
The weather system is forecast to deliver heavy to very heavy rain on November 29 across:
- Chennai
- Tiruvallur
- Kancheepuram
- Cuddalore
Some isolated areas may experience extremely heavy rainfall, prompting higher alert levels in the region.
The depression is currently positioned about 170 km east of Hambantota, Sri Lanka, and is expected to move north-northwest toward the north Tamil Nadu–south Andhra Pradesh coast over the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, Cyclonic Storm “Senyar”, located over coastal Northeast Indonesia, continues to progress south-southeastward and is likely to maintain its current intensity.
