Rapid growth of broadband is reason for decline in subscribers, says BSNL

After registering a growth in subscribers between 2009 and 2012, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has now been experiencing a decline in the number of fixed land line users in Tamil Nadu. It has lost more than 10000 subscribers in February and March alone.
�With over a million landline users, Chennai is an exception to many other telecom circles where mobile services have cannibalised the fixed phone business and virtually pushed it to extinction. This is mainly due to the rapid growth of broadband that has helped slow down the decline of the landline�, says G. Vijaya, Spokesperson for BSNL Chennai Telephones.
