Direct subsidy payment system for LPG cooking gas cylinders purchase comes into effect from today, Thursday, 1st January.
In the first phase of implementation, this system was introduced in 54 districts in 11 states.
In the next phase, this will be introduced throughout the country from today.
The consumer will buy the cylinder at the market rate. After the purchase, the subsidy amount will be deposited by the government in the consumers� bank savings account.
Direct subsidy payment system for LPG cooking gas cylinder was already introduced in in June, 2014. At that time, Aadhar card was required for the customer. This condition resulted in lots of problems in implementing the scheme.
Hence, the requirement of Aadhar card was not made compulsory. However, savings account in a bank was still compulsory.
The central government estimates that through this scheme of direct subsidy payment of LPG cooking gas cylinders through the banks will result in savings up to Rs. 10,000 Crores per year.
