Several residents in Tondiarpet prefer crossing busy Tiruvottiyur High Road to using the subway there.

Reason: The badly maintained subway is poorly lit and turns into a den of miscreants after dusk.

The subway is not swept or cleaned regularly. It stinks.

The presence of anti-socials who sit around drinking or sleeping in the subway to sleep posed a risk to those who dared enter the facility.

Women feel unsafe going in after 6.30 PM.

A corporation official said steps would be taken to improve it.
