Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chennai on Sunday, October 11, 2026, to inaugurate the Poonamallee - Porur metro rail service and launch other development projects. In view of his visit, Chennai police have arranged five-tier security involving around 22,000 police personnel.

PM Modi’s Chennai Visit Schedule

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Chennai from Delhi by a special aircraft. According to the reported itinerary, he will reach Chennai Airport at around 11:15 AM and travel by car to the Porur Bypass Metro Station.

There, he will inaugurate the Porur–Poonamallee metro rail service alongside Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay. The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister are also expected to travel on the metro train.

At around 12:15 PM, Modi is scheduled to visit the Arulmigu Sri Adhi Kubera Jalakandeswarar Temple in Porur to offer prayers.

He will then proceed to IIT Madras in Guindy at approximately 12:30 PM before travelling to the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam. He is expected to address an event there at around 2:40 PM.

After the programme, the Prime Minister is scheduled to leave for Chennai Airport at 3:45 PM and depart for Delhi by special aircraft at approximately 4 PM.

Reports also indicate that Modi may walk along designated roads near IIT Madras and Nandambakkam to interact with the public.

Five-Tier Security Arrangements Across Chennai

Security has been strengthened across Chennai ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. The National Security Guard (NSG) has also deployed a special officer, Amit Kumar, and his team in the city for security-related coordination.

Additional security measures have been introduced at Chennai Airport, Chennai Central Railway Station, Egmore Railway Station, Koyambedu Market and bus terminus, as well as other crowded public places.

Police have intensified night vehicle checks at important roads and junctions. Hotels and private accommodation facilities are also being inspected, and suspicious individuals are being questioned as part of the security arrangements.

22,000 Police Personnel to Be Deployed

Around 22,000 police personnel will be deployed across Chennai on Sunday. Five-tier security arrangements will be in place at Chennai Airport, the IIT Madras campus in Guindy and the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam.

The security operation will include five Additional Commissioners of Police, eight Joint Commissioners, 29 Deputy Commissioners and 80 Assistant Commissioners. The arrangements are being coordinated under the leadership of Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj.

7,000 Police Personnel for Porur Metro Station

Around 7,000 police personnel will be deployed at the Porur Bypass Metro Station and the Arulmigu Sri Adhi Kubera Jalakandeswarar Temple. Five-tier securitity will be provided at these locations as well.

Since the Prime Minister is expected to travel by metro, police personnel will be stationed along the entire metro route. Security personnel will also be positioned at close intervals along the roads used by his convoy, while bomb detection and disposal teams will inspect the route periodically.

Drone Flying Ban on October 11

As part of the security measures, the Chennai Police have announced a ban on drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles, including hot-air balloons, in designated areas on Sunday, October 11.

Authorities are also reportedly considering temporary closures of shops in certain areas during the Prime Minister’s visit and official programmes.
