Chennai’s Perambur is attracting attention during Navratri 2026 with a massive 48-foot-tall Golu featuring more than 4,500 dolls. Set up at SPR City, the elaborate display has been opened to the public as part of the Navratri Utsav, with an attempt to secure a place in the World Book of Records.
48 Foot Golu Aims for World Record
The grand Golu, measuring approximately 47.8 feet in height, has been arranged in multiple tiers. The organisers are attempting to have it recognised as one of the tallest Golu displays in the world by the World Book of Records in London.
More than 4,500 colourful Golu dolls have been arranged across the structure, making it a major attraction for devotees, families and visitors during the festive season.
Mythological Stories and Traditional Art
The display features dolls and scenes depicting Hindu mythology, the Dashavatara, divine weddings and episodes from Indian epics. These arrangements bring religious stories to life through traditional craftsmanship and colourful figurines.
The Golu also highlights Tamil culture, traditional lifestyles and folk arts. The display aims to help younger generations understand the region’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
Free Entry and Festival Timings
The Navratri Utsav at SPR City, Perambur, is scheduled to run from October 11 to October 20, 2026.
Visitors can view the Golu between 10 AM and 10 PM, and entry is reported to be free. Special poojas, devotional recitations and cultural programmes are also part of the celebrations.
