MWD wants to reduce pollution in the waterways plus to improve sewer network. It is now said that MWD is having plans to provide over one lakh new sewer connections in Chennai city and in added areas in another 6 months.

The pollution level on the Bogi day especially PM 2.5 is likely to be more than double the normal levels. The smoke from fires on this day could lead to sickness in the people, delay flights and increase the road accidents etc.
