Boathouses in Muttukadu and Mudaliyarkuppam to get facelift
State minister of tourism S P Shanmuganathan said in the assembly on Wednesday that boathouses in Muttukadu and Mudaliyarkuppam will get a facelift at a cost of Rs 4.70 crore this year.

Statutory notice to State transport commissioner
The state transport commissioner Satyabrata Sahoo will be issued with a statutory notice as per orders by the Madras high court. The notice directs him to appear for it on 8th of October.

Price of onion likely to reduce in coming weeks!
Being one of the staple vegetables in every kitchen, the rate for onions shot up from Rs. 20-Rs. 30 to Rs. 70 per kg, making spending on vegetables expensive. Traders said that the skyrocketing rates are likely to dip due to increase in supply from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Special drive by EPFO
A special drive will be conducted by the EPFO - Employees Provident Fund Organization. This drive is aimed at recovering all the pending dues from defaulting establishments in the month of September.

Hassles in Metro construction; stagnant works!
There has been no progress seen with the Chennai Metro Rail as one of its major contractors has abandoned the project. However, works are now picking up gradually and a portion of tunneling work is now completed on the 3.3 km stretch running from Saidapet to AG-DMS.

Funds allocated to develop universities
The Higher Education Department will develop infrastructure in the University of Madras and Tamil Nadu Open University. Sports facilities in Bharathiar and Bharathidasan University will also be improved.

Metro waters revenue up!
Chennai Metro water has registered an increase of Rs.76 crore in its revenue through water and sewerage tax and charges collection during 2014-15 as compared to the previous year.

Statue of actor Sivaji to be shifted
The State government on Tuesday informed the Madras High Court that the statue of thespian Sivaji Ganesan, presently located on Kamarajar Salai along the Marina Beach here. It would be shifted and installed at the new memorial proposed to construct soon.
