Posted on: 30/Jan/2019 10:02:26 AM
Soon the last leg of phase-1 of Chennai metro would be opened and CMRL has now taken a new step to increase the commuters. For the purpose of Office Ride to provide safe commute to passengers mainly IT employees from their homes to their offices and back to their homes by metro trains and feeder services, CMRL has tied up with Fords Corporate Shuttle Feeder Services.

On Wednesday, 30th January 2019, the service would be launched at the popular Alandur metro station. It was pointed out by a metro rail official that this service would be similar to share taxis or vans and it would link metro stations with major IT hubs at affordable cost.

As per the official of CMRL, in the beginning the service would be available from the Alandur metro station to Elcot and Sipcot and then it would be extended to Anna Nagar, AG-DMS etc. It must be noted that the service would be available to all metro commuters. The main purpose of the services would be to provide both first as well as last mile connectivity for the commuters. In addition to this traffic congestion and pollution would be lowered.

It is revealed that the Office Ride has got an app active in Chennai and Pune and the app works in the similar way to those operated by other cab aggregators. After downloading the app, the commuters must enter their pickup and drop locations. The point is this service functions on crowd sourced route suggestions to improve commutes. CMRL has been doing many things to make more people to use their metro trains in the last two years is known. It included plans to link OMR through an elevated corridor in phase-2 plus introduced feeder services to link stations with the neighbourhoods etc.

An official expressed his delight about more number of passengers using metro trains. He said that patronage has gone up to nearly 60000 after more lines were opened and after feeder services were introduced. It must not be forgotten that in October 2018 CMRL grabbed the attention when it launched as many as 4 air-conditioned vans from Alandur metro station towards DLF in Porur for the last mile connectivity.
