An approximate sum of Rs 13,000 towards construction of Chennai Metro Rail stretch covering Light House and Poonamallee corridor is likely. This would belong to the second phase of the metro rail project.

Sources say that the necessary construction works shall kick-start along this stretch once foreign bank loans get sanctioned for the same.

The World Bank, New Development Bank, Asian Development Bank and European Investment Bank have given an in principal approval for the project. However, a lot of discussion sessions are piled up following which loan amount towards the project will be decided out of the total sum of Rs 13,000. Perhaps, we should wait for a few weeks for finalizing, say sources.

The phase-1 status

In another few weeks, the first phase of the metro rail work will get completed with the last stretch along AG-DMS and Washermanpet to get inaugurated in another couple of weeks.
