The situation of this Sidha hospital in Chennai regarding medicines is an issue now

It is known that Arumbakkam in Chennai is an important residential locality. In this Arumbakkam is present the famous Arignar Anna Government Hospital of Indian Medicine and many people visit this hospital for their health problems.
The news that has come out now is with almost entire stock of medicines is over and the patients here in the Sidha ward of this hospital are given hot water with medicines to treat health issues like cold, diarrhoea etc. It must be noted that there are more than 150 in-patients in this Sidha ward here. It is now said that as many as 500 out-patients are given choice of buying the medicines from private drug stores or they could choose from the medicines available.
Commissioner of Indian medicine Dr K. Senthil Raj was very busy on Tuesday 6th March because of his meeting with 6 senior professors plus Government Sidha Medical College principal Dr. K. Kanakavalli. It must be noted that the duty doctors as well as students studying post graduation threatened to go on strike as one of their patients wanted pain killing therapeutic oils prescribed by doctors for her treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
According to a professor, this patient who created issue was a regular patient and she was told that medicines were not available. The cost of the medicines is very high and the patient said she won’t able to buy those medicines from private stores.
A doctor of this hospital spoke about how for more than 3 weeks many doctors are prescribing only 11 out of 112 types of drugs.
A postgraduate revealed that hot water is given to those patients who have diarrhoea plus medicines for common cold are also given for the patients. This student later spoke about how the side effects from the herbal medicines are not that huge and hinted that placebo effect is the only form of treatment given to the patients.
It is worthy to note that the patients are taken to nearby Kilpauk Medical College Hospital or Rajiv Gandhi Government Medical College Hospital for allopathic treatment if the condition of patients worsens.
A senior professor shared his thoughts and spoke about the massaging some patients with special oils. He further spoke about how this massaging when stopped could be life threatening and the main purpose of the massage was to dissolve the blood clots. He then highlighted that situation present in other hospitals and clinics across Tamil Nadu are far worse.
Dr Kanakavalli who is the principal revealed that amount of Rs 5 lakh has been sanctioned by the commissioner for purchase of the medicines from local market. She later spoke about how after GST there was a problem with respect to procurement of medicines. She added that joint director would be playing a crucial role in the purchase of medicines and the lack of medicines issue would be sorted out soon for the sake of the patients.
Dr R. Parthibhan Indian Medicine joint director expressed his thoughts and said after GST, the agency which purchases medicines ‘TAMCOL’ had to recall many tenders which resulted in slowing down in the purchase of some drugs.
