How to get ration card?

Ration card is the most important identity that a person  is a citizen of this country.

Apart from the facility to buy all essential grocery items at a reasonable prices, the ration card serves to identify oneself during many important occasions in life.

The application for getting a ration card is available both in English & Tamil in all Taluk Offices and all Xerox shops. One can also visit the website:


Download the application form. Fill the application form and submit to the TSO (officer in-charge of distribution of food items) in the Taluk Office in your residential area.

Proofs to be attached with the ration card application:
  • Residence Proof
  • Voter ID
  • Payment receipt of Properly Tax/Electricity Bill/Telephone Bill (anyone of the three)
  • Copy of the 1st page of savings bank account passbook or Copy of the passport
  • Proof that the name has been removed from the previous ration card (belonging to parent or guardian) or has not been included in the previous ration card.
  • Proof that there has been no ration (family card)
  • If there is a cooking gas connection, name of the person who has the same and the name of the LPG gas Agent & the company.
  • Self-addressed post-card or envelope
  • A fee of Rs. 5/- has to be paid at the office of TSO. 
Get the serial number of the ration card application after submitting the same. This will enable to know the status of the application.
