Construction work of the underground Metro Station under T Nagar Panagal Park is in full swing!

The progress of construction work of the Metro Railway Station to be set up below the Panagal Park of T Nagar in Chennai Metro City is in full swing! 

Under Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, the construction of the Metro Rail track as well as the Railway Stations covering a distance of 118,9 km for Rs. 200 Crores.

Under Phase 2 of the Metro Rail Project, 3 corridors are taken up – Chennai Marina Lighthouse to Poonamallee (26.1 km),  Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47 km), and Madhavaram to Siruseri SIPCOT (47 km).

On the above, the contractors have been selected for the construction work for the construction of tracks as well as the Railway Stations for the section Poonamallee Bypass to Lighthouse and the construction work is already in progress!

In this corridor, between the stations of Kodambakkam and Nandanam, Metro Station is to be set up underground in the Panagal Park, T Nagar.

Panagal Park is situated at the centre of the Theagaraya Nagar (T Nagar).  There are several trees in this area.  After getting approval from the Ministry and the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), the construction work for setting up the tracks and the Metro Stations is in progress!

For the construction work, the trees here are being cut and removed! Further, the construction is being expedited and is progressing in full swing! For rapid construction progress, all heavy construction equipment such as Giant Cranes, construction materials, etc., are kept ready in Panagal Park! Work is progressing day and night!

Metro Rail officials shared in this regard:

"So far, 133 trees have been cut in Panagal Park for the construction work! Once the construction work is completed, the Metro Rail Company will plant 1596 saplings!

A fund of Rs. 22.33 Crores has been allotted under the Metro Rail Project Phase-2 for the enhancement of the environment!  The Metro Rail Construction will be completed without any harm or damage to the greenery!"
