Superb news!! Chennai road stretches to improve to carry heavy traffic

Posted on: 16/Nov/2021 9:21:34 AM
To improve the standards of stretches for the purpose of carrying heavy traffic, GCC would be including more roads in Chennai under the Bus Route Roads Department.

Soon, a study would be carried out by the GCC regarding the traffic on and as many as 40000 interior roads would be studied plus damaged roads would be identified. It is now brought out that those roads that have more passenger car units per hour and high pedestrian movement would also be brought under the Bus Route Roads Department.

Truth is that roads under Taylors Road and Harrington Road have already been identified for inclusion in the bus routes. In the same way, few roads in Madhavaram have also been identified for inclusion in the bus routes. The line services would be finding it tough once the road stretch gets classified as bus route road because digging the stretches for infrastructure projects or service connections would become a challenge.

After the inclusion of more interior roads, the number of roads maintained by the Bus Route Road Department would increase significantly. Information collected is that at present as many as 471 bus routes were maintained by Chennai Corporation. As many as 48 bus route roads have been identified by the civic body for the purpose of repair works. In 22 of the damaged bus routes, work has commenced now. Few important roads in Chennai like Usman Road and Mahalingapuram Main Road that are affected by heavy flooding due to the rains have been cleaned and repair works have started. More than 15311 complaints that have been received on helpline 1913 have been resolved by GCC. Flood mitigation works have been taken up at as many as 781 locations in Chennai.

From the roads belonging to 15 GCC zones, more than 1400 tonnes of additional garbage has been removed.
