The State Government of Tamil Nadu has ordered that each member of the family as given in the ration card will be given 5 kg of rice!
The Tamil Nadu State Government has also issued orders to give extra rice for the 3 months of April, May, and June.
In the present condition of lockdown imposition, the State Government of Tamil Nadu gave financial assistance of Rs. 1000 for the rice ration-card holders. Further, it gave all the ration items for April free!
In this situation, the central government ordered that extra rice be given to all the eligible family ration-card holders
In other words, the central government had ordered that for the 3 months of April, May, and June, each person named in the family ration card must be given 5 kg rice and 1 kg of Bengal gram,
Under the National Food Safety Act, the central government is giving rice at lower prices only for the eligible ration-card holders. However, in Tamil Nadu, free rice is being given for all ration-card holders!
Subsequently, the state government of Tamil Nadu procured additional rice from the National Food Corporation at a cost of Rs. 84 Crores for distribution to the ration-card holders. Moreover, it has informed that the additional rice for the month of April may even be received during May and June.
