RIL to step into LNG retail market

Posted on: 17/Jul/2017 2:11:09 PM
It is likely that Reliance Industries Ltd will step into the retail market of liquefied natural gas, and charging stations for electric vehicles shall soon be set up at its petrol pumps, say reliable sources.

By end of April this year, about 1,221 of its total 1,470 fuel retail outlets were operated. The remaining outlets are likely to be reopened by end of this year. On the whole, RIL holds license for operating 5000 outlets on the whole.

RIL sources LNG from the twin refineries at Jamnagar. After kick-starting coke gasification project, the company wouldn’t need it anymore. The LNG can be diverted for retail usage, said close sources.

RIL spokesperson however did not have any comment on reply in this regard.

At the same time, the Royal Dutch Shell and Petronet LNG both of which are liquid gas importers have got plans to set up LNG retail outlets. There will also be charging stations for electric vehicles set up at these fuel outlets. This is aimed as RIL believes electric vehicles are gaining immense popularity.

RIL has been showing interest in these ideas all the time, as most of its outlets are present on highways which is a very ideal location. Now, it is taking a slew in its view towards making it possible and that it finds better to focus on electricity in the near future.
