Aadhar card scanning deadline gets extended

Posted on: 30/Sep/2016 5:37:57 PM
Ration cards that are currently in use by the public are set to get expired by December this year. Hence, the government has devised plans to distribute smart cards instead of ration cards.

It is believed that the smart card system will hinder malpractices taking place in distributing ration items. Targeting to achieve this system right from the beginning of January 2017, the government is taking serious measures.

For this, works are on the go to record contact details, ration card and Aadhar card details across all districts in Tamil Nadu.

In over 2000 ration shops across Chennai, works to scan Aadhar card has been taking place since first week of this month. Advanced machines are being used to gather all details of ration card holders.

Those who have successfully registered for this will receive an SMS containing ration card number, ration shop number, etc. This is considered as the proof for registration.

There are over 20 lakh ration cards in use in Chennai. Out of these, only 8 lakh ration card users have got the registration done so far. This accounts only to 45 percent of these users. Hence, the deadline for scanning Aadhar card is extended for one more month.
