10.34 lakh houses likely to be affected by increase in electricity fare

It has been estimated that due to the increase in electricity fare, 10.34 lakh houses will be affected in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu saw 15% hike in the current fare from 12th of last month. TN Chief Minister has announced that Government will bear for two months the cost of current bills for those whose consumption crosses 500 units.
For household connections, Rs.6.00 will be collected for consumptions that are above 500 units for two months. The increase counts to 0.85 paisa per unit. Moreover, only 10.34 lakh houses use more than 500 units of electricity out of the total 1.71 crore current connections.
