Government plans to generate 500 units of electric power from the vegetable wastes at Koyambedu!

A power generating plant from vegetable waste was commissioned in May in Koyambedu. Recurrent problems affected the generation during months of July & August.

Subsequently, a new ‘Macerator’ gas equipment has been procured from Czechoslovakia and the generation plant was restarted. It has been producing 300 to 500 units of power every day.

Till recently, the plant was under the control of Chennai Metropolitan Development Corporation. Now, the responsibility of the power plant has been handed over to a private contracting company currently doing waste removal & cleaning in Koyambedu market area.

With the current capacity, up to 2500 units of power can be produced from this plant.

However, frequent problem in the system has reduced the weight of vegetable waste fed into the plant resulting in lesser generation of 300 to 500 units.

Efforts are under way to improve this condition for increased power generation. The power generated is fed to the Koyambedu market.
