Chennai Corporation to be stringent on trees being razed

Two days after corporation workers cut down two trees and a branch of another in RA Puram to set up a new Amma canteen, the city corporation on Tuesday said it would take stringent action against anyone felling trees.
Corporation officials said they received instructions to avoid cutting trees for projects. “Employees have to either transplant such trees to another location or plant 10 new trees if one tree is chopped down in case it is absolutely essential,“ a senior corporation official said. He said action would be taken against officials who cut down trees without permission from the corporation.
