Many a times, we find people advising us not to drink water immediately after consuming specific food items. Do you know that there are scientific reasons for you to strictly follow the tip? Why is it said so and why this has to be strictly followed?

According to food experts and nutritionists, food items that are high in water content should never be consumed with water. For example, watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, kakdi, pineapple, melon, grapefruit, strawberry, orange, etc.

The pH level gets hit:
The process of digestion in our body requires certain pH level. If you are consuming water immediately after having such water-rich food, the pH level gets disturbed. When there is too much of water, the pH will get diluted and lead to weakened digestion. As there are both fibre and water, papaya or melon or other similar fruits are usually not advised for eating in empty stomach, because these will dilute pH level in our digestive system.

These water-rich food items can slide down in an empty stomach and get digested right while traveling through the food pipe, even before it reaches the digestive system. So when you drink water, it will dilute pH level and disrupt digestion, thus leading to undigested food. Resultantly, the food items, instead of providing nutrition to your body, will transform into toxins.

When you consume cucumber or watermelon, it can naturally promote digestion. When you take water after eating such fruits or veggies, it will disrupt digestion. These already contain water in large amount and it will smoothen the digestion process and hence eases bowel movement. By taking water over these fruits, the bowel movement furthermore smoothens and results in diarrhea. Rather than getting stabilized, the gut movement gets speedy. During digestion, the digestive juices are produced. These will get neutralized and results in sooner excretion than they should actually get rid of the body, thus resulting in weak digestive system.

Remember, say experts, you should never consume water right after a meal or in between the meal, because it will wash away all the enzymes, thus resulting in poor digestion. So, the question is when is the right time to drink water? You can verily drink water after 30 to 40 minutes of your meal time or after having these rich-in-water fruits.
