When the officials from the Department of Food conducted a check in the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale supermarket, 5 tons of chemical-coated papaya fruits were found and seized.

However, complaints were being received by the Department of Food that the traders indulge in giving chemical coats to the fruits in order to preserve them for longer periods.

One of the shops checked had 5 tons of papaya fruits coated with chemicals.
The officials immediately sealed 2 shops which had violated the rules and regulations.
