Are you among the million desk-bound workers? If your job is to sit down for hours in front of the computer, you have got higher chances of heart disease and larger waistline, according to a new study.

For each and every additional hour after 5 hours of sitting work, your waist circumference will increase by 2 cm and the risk of cardiovascular disease will increase by 0.2 percent, say researchers. In addition, during each of these extra hours, the level of bad cholesterol increases and that of good cholesterol comes down.

William Tigbe from the University of Warwick, UK made the study and with the results found, he advises people to be more active and avoid sitting for long hours. The study further stresses on moving on. Standing for close to 7 hours a day and walking up to 7 miles is necessary to be healthy without heart ailments, the study points.

Tigbe picked 111 postal workers all of whom were handpicked to be healthy. He kitted them out for the study and monitored for 7 days throughout. 55 of them were made to do office works and 56 were given delivered post for living.

Those who were involved in desk works had increase in their waist circumference and increased from 94 cm to 97 cm and 1 unit difference in BMI (Body Mass Index).
